Painful Lullaby

One more night of hunger, it was
Stomach growled out of pain,
As she desperately tried to put her baby asleep

Her tearful eyes were questions to God,
For why at all the nights of hunger does not end
While the nascent one craved for food

She cradled him in her lap
Vigorously shaking her legs
The motherly lullaby was about to start

She joined with her son
And hummed the way he cried
Her muddy hands patting his hungry stomach

“Sleep my dear, for the fairies await”
“at the gates of a world, away from the night”
“A world so far, better and bright”

“Sleep my dear, for your right to dream”
“A dream of a sky and the starlit way”
“A world free from hunger where happiness play”
Was the song she hummed, if can be understood

With in a while, he calmed down
His eyes shut with the mystic song
But the painful lullaby went on

And once again, sleep had conquered hunger
The little one fell fast asleep
With his tiny palm resting on his mother’s stomach
