The wee hours of the morning today
Brought with it, a sense of fear
The peaceful yesterday seemed
Like a wall piece hanging in the drawing room
When a loud sound disturbed my sleep
I murmured, diwali isn’t over yet?
With half shut eyes, I peeped through the window
And sleep vanished through my wide open mouth
Swiftly ducking down, I recollected the glimpse
Thick Smoke and innocent blood all over
People I met yesterday fell lifeless on the roads
Jarring sound of police sirens, the stench of gunpowder
And a bloody gun aiming at my door.
Oh GOD !! Terrorists! I said to my self
A minute of cold silence followed…
I sneaked through all the windows, all the sides
Finally to find a dead solider, his watchful eyes still open
As though the patriotic fire infested me
Through the martyr’s burning eyes
The silence then was about to erupt
Into a dreadful shout of maddening rage
what they call is a soldier’s job
had now become a duty to save my home.
“who the being of the sinful lands, dare
To touch her sovereign borders
For who dares to enter the valley of peace
To cage the freedom of the flying birds”
“who mistook the patience of the holy mother
For an inability to squash an insect to death
Come you, beast of the cowardly clan
Now we shall exchange a word…”
I pulled a metal ball clinging from the armored shirt
And waged towards the gate,
Fearlessly I threw it towards the gutless gun
With a BOOM… the brat fell to a shameful death
My face shivering with anger…
My nerves oozing out of excitement
I opened my arms towards the sky
And yelled the triumphant mantra
JAI HIND!!!
The moment next I opened my eyes,
to realize that it was a dream.
But the ecstasy of patriotism
Had filled my eyes with tears.
