The Journey Of A Cloud

Drinking water from the
pool of feelings
the cloud grew larger in the infinite blue sky.

The gentle winds brought
memories of past
and pushed it ashore across the vast land of time.

From by-gone days to
the indefinite future
the cloud loomed with a restless thunder.

Magnified with its journey
at last it alighted,
showing its back to the vibrant sun of the present.

Lost, in gazing the blue sky
was a tearful eye
seen in its stillness, were the reflections of the cloud.

grabbing the reflections,
the clueless gaze ended
squeezing the cloud into a drop of tear.

The droplet gathered on the chin
before it slipped on the ground
and the rain began....

The Goddess Of Poetry

The foot prints of her naked feet,
Ah! The delicateness in the shape,
Imprinted inspirations!
The frock, Milk white,
that balladed with the wind
its wet edges, pouring droplets of emotions.
Love, contained in the bosom
descended through the half shut eyes
and flew, into a lyrical stream.
As a reminiscence of the disconnect
from the spiritual something,
her navel flanked occasionally.
feelings, in her parts of feminity
Hidden, desperate to be awaken
with the urge to be described
in the newest form,
when the rain stops.
Holding the rainbow
as a shield to the rain,
the goddess of poetry
walked on the wet streets..

The Wild Adventure

The forest livens up
With cries of panic.
Birds resting on the trees,
explode into the skies, At once
and a mad rush follows.
To indicate his arrival.

Baboons take it high, atop the trees
As if to broadcast the message
Anxious deers search all corners
The mammoths stand where they are
While rabbits hurry into the burrows

A sudden moment of silence occurs
Even the brook hesitates to muse
A hundred eyes, a hundred hearts
Enquiring the same
“Who’s next?”

And He emerges from his shady hideout.
Dead leaves crackle to his masterful walk.
With a loud roar he graces his kingdom
Silence falls prey to the fearsome screems
And the curtains unfold....

In Love...Again!

The flame fluttered
as winds threatened to drown light
into the infinite ocean of darkness
when her beautiful palms stood guard
transcending hope to the dying oil lamp.

the night reveled nothing of her
but just her face, blessed by illumination.
her bright palms looked like
she had owned the sun
her glittering eyes reflected the galactic aura

The amber-light reflected her forms;
A daughter, in her obedience,
A loving wife, in her commitment,
Mother, when she cared
A perfect women, in her completeness.

her face painted anxiousness
and she dissolved into the night
some other light, wanted hope?
winds brought the music of her chiming bangles
And the moment sipped elixir!

A glimpse of her radiance
embossed in my heart
such that, every time I remember
the lamp, the light, the night
and the beauty
I fall in love...Again

An Atheist

My breath is free from the scented smoke
And forehead does not bare any marks
No more, entangled, is my neck with the symbols of religion
The hymns, the chants and the utter in the ancient slang
Sounds like noise…
silence, now has become my prayer

The idols seem to tease me
Shapes transform behind the closed eyes
The beliefs that I believed in, have turned into narrow roads
And choices, not many left to decide
The lengthy rituals have been almost forgotten
My Will is now my source of energy

Scared of cats I was. But not any more
Eclipse I enjoy as a marvel of universe
My Donations now go into needful hands
“Deeds can do miracles”, I learnt
The black blanket of sightless faith is torn to pieces
Knowledge, is the emblem on my invisible flag

A Religion, that is free from God
A head that bows to the virtuous lord
All that the crypts and the sages say
Is just about the sublime self - undiscovered
Vigilant, almighty and hard to please
In quite hours, I think…
The enlightened form of theism, Atheism is?

The Drunkard

The door of the BAR opened with a bang
Annoyed and murmuring he emerged out of the golden light
As if thrown out of the heaven back into the dark.
Staring at the door, until the last ray of light dissolved
His lips locked over the mouth of the bottle
Like he gave it a French kiss!
And began moving, doing the dance of MJ

Frequently he alighted for one more kiss of The Soma
And again the dance followed.
Uneven, he thought, were the roads
Whenever he tripped over his own feet
Global warming! he uttered
For the earth, for him, was spinning fast

To the sculptures he told his plans
With mannequins he romanced
Ring-a-Ringa he did around the trees
And hissed at the street dogs that barked at him
At the silent corner, finally was the climax,
One more kiss, and he was at the zenith of lunatic ecstasy

Stepping over the footpath,
like an actor, he held the stage
Spotlight, The streetlights happened to be.
his biography he retold to the audience, the empty sides
He cried, laughed, angered, annoyed
He Won, He lost, suffered and enjoyed
And finally silence was acceptance.

On the bench, he lied
The eyes reflected the clouded skies
A drop of tear crawled down his cheeks
reflections of the dreams, squeezed.
The empty bottle slipped out of his hands
And his eyes closed,
Just untill the golden light would knock again
Clueless of surprise that tomorrow would bestow.

Towards The Nirvana

Immersed in the ocean of thoughts
Was prince Siddhartha,
At a window, he stood
That which showed him a forged world
But across the boundaries of his palace
Was a world that contradicted his conviction

His eyes lost into the eternal sky
His mind, wading through the torrent
of questions that had now begun to tease him
The winds that came from the town side,
those which used to kiss his tender cheeks,
now brought shouts of suffering and illness.

each blink of his eyes, brought forth the images
the painful cycle of birth and death
Illness ready to invade, youth sure to fade
On each turn of the minute, death ready to celebrate
Fear, anxiety lust and hate
Tangled is the sublime soul, freedom, it awaits

Disrobed of his pride,
Disarmed of his pleasures
searching for the pearls of ultimate truth
In the prosperous womb of solitude
Barefooted he walked, into the forest of time,
His nascent steps towards ‘The Nirvana’

Forgot To Pray

The dong of the temple bell
livened up the silent aura.
with a smile on his face,
he clapped his tiny hands together
and acquired a praying posture

Now and then, he opened his eyes
gazed at the sacred form
and quickly closed his eyes again
did he remember a new prayer?

at times his sight wandered
all over the sanctum Santorum
not at the diamond studded crown,
certainly not at the shining ornaments
then what was it, he searched for?

unaware he is of the religious rituals
Not even does he know,
the meaning of a prayer
yet, he just murmured...
A secret language, the gods knew?

Just then, his eyes opened wide
a blissful smile, conquered his face
His prayer...answered?
the poet babbled in his mind
The God himself, appeared?

And what a wonder it was...
a little Brahmin stepped out of the Santorum
his face beamed like sunlight
forehead decked with sandal,
both held hands and sang songs of merry.

forgotten was the world for a while
happiness danced...ecstasy romanced
following the tiny feet
that let him out of the temple
and the poet forgot to PRAY!

Dashavtaar - The Divine Manifestation

When the darkness defined
the time, space and world
thou emerged as a ray of light
basked in thy divine radiance
the world sought it's existence
and the trilogy was born

while the great flood hit
and dowsed the cosmos
the mammoth fish, thou were
and drove ashore the ship of mankind
and the creation, prevailed

when the churning of the ocean began
for elixir of life,
the gods and demons fought
thou transformed as the magnanimous turtle
and held the staff on thy dependable shell

The devil conquered the worlds
and plunged it back into darkness
thou manifested as a wild boar
The Evil defeated,
and the world ,restored on thy tusks

On a devout call, thou
appeared from a pillar in the court hall
in a dreadful form
the half human, half animal
and tore the belly of the proxy-god
Justice restored, the solemn prayers, answered

Like a dwarf thou seemed
to the king who deemed to own the creation
in just three steps of thy lotus feet
one for the earth, one for the sky
the third crushed the pride of the king
thou claimed to be the supreme

with an axe thou came along
as the warrior-saint, the angered one
heads of the arrogant kings, blinded with power,
cut, the mighty axe laid to rest
drenched in blood, of the 'adharma'
the righteous lamp of dharma, lit again

The prince of ayodhya, then thou became
simplicity glittered, tolerance taught
thy form, nothing but a common man
thy courage, greater than the ten headed one
thy story, a book of morals
"The Ideal Man", thou art, still

from a prince to an exotic charmer,
with a flute in his hand
the blissful smile, conquered hearts
he who taught lessons of dharma
standing tall, in the battle ground
the infinite form revealed, the religion, authored

Path of renunciation then chosen
in search of truth, thou wandered
riches left far ashore the mortal land
re-born from the womb of spirituality
Bright, Enlightened, nonattached,
thou walked the way of Nirvana

since then, I Await
for thy manifestation, the next one
eager to offer thee my body and soul...

from a fish to a turtle
and then the boar
the half human, half animal
the dwarf, a saint, a king and a charmer
thou manifested in forms, unusual
I search for thee in the infinite
Unaware I am searching, in vain!
while thou crept in my soul
and wrote thy story through my pen
I Never Know.....

The Descent Of Ganga

From the heavenly abode
breaking all barriers
she descended with all her might

Careless, mindless of the catastrophe
she stretched out of the skies
ready to batter the creation

I, the ethereal, the mighty - GANGA
sent down to cleanse the earthly sinful gore
on the call of a hermit
How dare!

Bombarded with my Might
Choked, with my volume
Deafened with my Loudness
and blinded with my glimpse
the creation will be...
TAKE IT!! here I come...
Her pride muttered

About to fall, she was
the creation, about to perish
when HE caught her in his matted hair
entangled, Squeezed, Crushed, tied
her pride...
outpoured, meagerly through the matted hair
Elixir, Love, Motherhood, Life
The creation, nourished, cleansed, revived

Undisturbed, she flows
through the snow-crowned mountains
through the arteries across the land
from time unknown to infinity

The Ganga...

POST

"Post" a Voice yelled at my doorstep
and a nostalgic world beckoned
The times of inland letters and postcards

The concern, the tears, the smiles and the love
The stories of neighborhood, the news around
The piece of paper conveyed, wellbeings in the battleground!

Miles of distance, the message travelled
with prolonged wait, the feelings magnified
The eager eyes drank the content and dowsed the thirsty heart

so much to convey and such little space!
each sentence colored with flavors of emotions
every word written, dipped in the heart's ink

How ironic, I thought
It was then, and it is today,
when The gizmos shrunk the distance
Yet the connections seldom meet...

The Perfume Girl

The perfume shop in the busy mall,
bottled the scent of the cosmos,
flanked by a girl who wore a forged smile.

Lips clipped apart, under a straight sharp nose,
the lush black curly hair falling on her shoulders,
her adoring eyes, burdened by cosmetic dust.

cheeks dimpled, with talks dipped in style,
her dress of elegance, her smart moves,
The fragrance around her invited a little more closer.

sometimes Angel, sometimes Envy, she wore
and at times the Black Orchid in contrast to the Rose
Euphoria, Alien, Eternity and Organza all the shades of falsehood!

but the closer one went, the fragrance,
meagered in to a whole of stench,
her real self shouting to be heard.

for the lipstick hid her truthful smile,
the talks she talked was not her style,
the emotions behind the lustrous eyes awaited the daylight.

she called it a day with the false mask, washed off
and a fresh fragrance beckoned
and the true self unveiled...

colored in faint pink, her lips were again.
her talks, sugared by unconditional giggles.
the sweetness of her true self filled the noisy rooms.

more glorious than anything
more exotic than ever
basking in the her own aroma, she walked towards the exit.

The Balloon

Red, green, blue, yellow
balloons of all colors reflected
into his dreamy little eyes
that dreamt of playing with them some day.
the thin thread that tied the balloon,
the soft nothingness that filled them
the vibrant color, the weightless delight
it all facinated his innocent heart.
his father sold them everyday
for it was his daily bread
but never, what so ever
he gave his son, one to play
untill one day, when the father gave up
and presented him his most cherished play
Oh! his face gleamed with emotions
as though he held the universe and tied it to a thread!
his mouth open, nostrills breathing excitement
the poor hands touched the smooth surface
and BANG !!! the balloon blew away
his curiosity had turned jealous of his smile
he looked at his father, controling his tears
but he could'nt give him one more
the angry eyes of his father said it all
all his dreams blew away with the balloon.
Just then, a boy came in with his father
crying, making fuss, demanding
for his balloon had met it's fate
another new balloon and smiles came back
while tears poured from the poor eyes
each drop of tear, reflecting a hundred balloons
Just reflections inspiring to one more dream.
the little one held his father's hand
as they walked to the next lane

Thank You, Silence!

you occupy the empty theater
and watch the life's off stage play
you speak through the colors
of the dumb statues made of clay

In the quest full hours
behind the meditating eyes, you stay
and answer every question
in your own silent way.

On the top of the mountains
to the depth of the seas,
you re-live as honey
in the busy hive of the bees.

In the womb of the sea shell
where the pearls are formed
you guard the creation
of the marvels transformed

from the beginning of the life
to the unseen eternity
you describe, the indescribable
the fraction of a second in its entirety

some times a nod of acceptance, you are
some times denial is your say
how unpredictable are you!
but, interesting is every thing that you portray

Thank you for being wherever you stay
Thank you for your honest way
thank you for living on the lips that pray
Thank you Silence, for everything you say

The Patriotic Ecstasy

The wee hours of the morning today
Brought with it, a sense of fear
The peaceful yesterday seemed
Like a wall piece hanging in the drawing room

When a loud sound disturbed my sleep
I murmured, diwali isn’t over yet?
With half shut eyes, I peeped through the window
And sleep vanished through my wide open mouth

Swiftly ducking down, I recollected the glimpse
Thick Smoke and innocent blood all over
People I met yesterday fell lifeless on the roads
Jarring sound of police sirens, the stench of gunpowder
And a bloody gun aiming at my door.

Oh GOD !! Terrorists! I said to my self
A minute of cold silence followed…
I sneaked through all the windows, all the sides
Finally to find a dead solider, his watchful eyes still open
As though the patriotic fire infested me
Through the martyr’s burning eyes
The silence then was about to erupt
Into a dreadful shout of maddening rage
what they call is a soldier’s job
had now become a duty to save my home.

“who the being of the sinful lands, dare
To touch her sovereign borders
For who dares to enter the valley of peace
To cage the freedom of the flying birds”

“who mistook the patience of the holy mother
For an inability to squash an insect to death
Come you, beast of the cowardly clan
Now we shall exchange a word…”

I pulled a metal ball clinging from the armored shirt
And waged towards the gate,
Fearlessly I threw it towards the gutless gun
With a BOOM… the brat fell to a shameful death

My face shivering with anger…
My nerves oozing out of excitement
I opened my arms towards the sky
And yelled the triumphant mantra
JAI HIND!!!

The moment next I opened my eyes,
to realize that it was a dream.
But the ecstasy of patriotism
Had filled my eyes with tears.

The Bench

On the green carpet of grass
At the pavement, under the shade of a tree
Invitingly, stood a wooden bench
With it’s arms open towards the world

Covered by a blanket of dead leaves
Bathed in the morning dew,
With the sunshine it woke up
As the joggers wiped it clean

Waiting for the busy morning to settle
Silently it watched the rush
As the people sat, waiting for the means
Some just alighted to tie the shoe lace

Towards the noon, a dishearten soul
Befriended the bench
It let him in its’ arms, Patiently
listening to him as he pour his heart out

At the lunch time, it joined
The company of the laborers
Crisscross they adjusted to sit on,
And it’s complaining creak, went unheard

Towards sunset, it became a favorite view point
Seated on which a poet, rambled
And the evenings were occupied
By the love birds, stealing sweet moments

Abandoned by the night, the bench
Was then, the bed of a teetotaler
He hugged the bench and
Crept in to a dreamy world…

Missing you

I cannot tell the countless words
that I yearn to hear
when you are not speaking to me

Only the silence watches me
with pity,
speak to me and you shall know

I cannot count the infinite minutes
that slip themselves
when I am lost in you memories

only my heart is the witness
that still beats
listen to it and you shall know

I cannot measure the boundless distance
through time and space
that separates you from me

only my aloofness can be the judge
of the painful distance
Come to hug me tight, and you shall know

I cannot see the world without you
eyes disagreeing even to blink
scared of loosing you last glimpse to tears

only my eyes are the testimony
of my love for you
look into them and you shall know

Painful Lullaby

One more night of hunger, it was
Stomach growled out of pain,
As she desperately tried to put her baby asleep

Her tearful eyes were questions to God,
For why at all the nights of hunger does not end
While the nascent one craved for food

She cradled him in her lap
Vigorously shaking her legs
The motherly lullaby was about to start

She joined with her son
And hummed the way he cried
Her muddy hands patting his hungry stomach

“Sleep my dear, for the fairies await”
“at the gates of a world, away from the night”
“A world so far, better and bright”

“Sleep my dear, for your right to dream”
“A dream of a sky and the starlit way”
“A world free from hunger where happiness play”
Was the song she hummed, if can be understood

With in a while, he calmed down
His eyes shut with the mystic song
But the painful lullaby went on

And once again, sleep had conquered hunger
The little one fell fast asleep
With his tiny palm resting on his mother’s stomach

The Music Of The Sea

It all started the day,
the divine droplet disturbed
the slumbering waters.
as if the drop ensouled music
the song of the sea began.

The silence deep inside,
the ballads musing the sailors,
the waltz with the wind,
and percussion of the hauling waves,
finally the chorus rendered to the shores.

The serene prayer offered
on the new moon day.
The heavy rock played
to impress the full moon.
cosmos drenched with the maddening rage.

sometimes the sky joins
with it's own musical mood.
the winds sing the symphony
with shouts of the thunder
and the rains applause for the brilliant show.

Every day, a new mood
Every wave, a new rhythm
Every surf, a new song
looking at the sea I wonder
of what decadence the divine droplet was?
